Childhood

I was born in South Carolina in 1966. My family moved to Florida in 1973, shortly after I completed first grade in school. My childhood was what one could call normal — comic books, candy, Atari video games, organized baseball, etc.

Going to Work

In 1984, I graduated from Pensacola High School and followed in my Dad's footsteps. The industrial electrical trade. This line of work had me travelling all over the Southeast and beyond. Locations like Picayune, MS; Norco, LA; Tennessee Colony, TX (Palestine); International Falls, MN, Ft. Madison, IA; Selma, AL; Montgomery, AL; Moss Point, MS; Greenville, SC; Mauldin, SC; Clute, TX; Pine Bluff, AR; Lake Charles, LA; and more.

The Writing Biz

Macmillan Publishing approached me in 1998 to do some technical editing and chapter writing for computer books. This led to a long stint as a writer/editor for several major publishers. Some of my work, co-written with Pamela Rice Hahn, can still be found at online booksellers.

Computer Repair Biz

Computer repair became my profession in January 2005. Having built & repaired computers and designed Web sites since 1994, this was a logical step towards getting "off the road." I am still chugging along repairing computers. It's much more fun (plus no boredom) than any other job I've ever had in the past.

Hobbies

Over the years I have developed an addiction to genealogy. The fruits of all my research are located on this Web site.

Since my father's death I have developed a keen interest in coin collecting. This was one of his favorite things. So I've decided to add to my part of his collection with a focus on Indian Head cents.

Recently I got a Canon EOS 350D Digital Rebel camera. I plan to get as good at photography as possible with what time I have to devote to it.

Miscellaneous

I have a MySpace page located at http://www.myspace.com/shortyjoejones
